As part of the IT department at our work, we decided to enter the pumpkin carving contest and decided to go with the spider theme. Carved the eyes, painted the spider with acrylic paints and a paint brush, used pipe cleaner as legs and got baby plastic pumpkins from the 99 cent store to act as the babies. The web was a centerpiece mat also from the dollar store.
The good stuff is the inside where we have the arduino board (in a plastic bag of course!) controlling the four microservos. They are rigged in such a way that a paperclip is bent and attached to the eyeballs on one side. As the servo moves at varying degrees, so do other eyes. The arduino code takes a random number between 1 and 180 and that is the degree that the servo moves. All servos have a different number to make the spider creepily move it's eyes as though they are all independent of one another :)
