So a lot of stuff happened, the biggest things being Tails being the only one that can see and communicate to Sonic’s spirit, the introduction of Cream the Rabbit and a retired Dr. Eggman, Tails and Amy supposedly breaking up, Shadow’s confession about Sonic’s body, and Knuckles’ confession about impregnating Rogue. Previously Sonic had decided to off himself to revive Tails instead of putting a chaos emerald in his brain and the reason for Sonic’s sudden decision was because Exe actually showed him what Tails would’ve become if he actually did go through with putting a emerald in Tails’ brain and the result was problematic, so much so that Sonic decided to off himself to revive Tails. Since then several months has passed, with Sonic still being dead and spending time in limbo with Exe. Sonic pleaded to Exe to make him able to talk to Tails at least once which Exe finally agreed, letting Tails be the only one who could talk and see Sonic’s ghostly spirit. Tails tells Sonic that he and the others have tried using the chaos emeralds to bring Sonic back to life but unfortunately the emeralds wouldn’t be able to do so, that’s because in this universe Sonic’s ancestors helped Knuckles’ ancestors create two of the chaos emeralds (the blue and red chaos emeralds) which harnesses the blood of both Sonic and Knuckles’ ancestors and the emeralds only remaining active as long as Sonic and Knuckles are alive, but if one dies both emeralds will lose their energy, making them permanently inactive and thus the reason Tails and the others can’t bring Sonic back by using the emeralds.
