Pantagruelian parade / IDEA GNOSIS interdisciplinary arts studio (Riga, Latvia) / 2012
It is an outdoor performance inspired by the characters and atmosphere of the immortal work of Francois Rabelais and philosophy and esthetics of butoh dance. For the first time it was done during the White night festival (2012) in Riga where eight characters and four musicians went into a several hours and kilometers long procession through the city and inhabited its various monuments, parks and less famous places. In each stop group had a different performance - for example a little geese dance near National Opera and a fight between Giant and cyclopes in the medieval Old Riga. It begins with the birth of the creatures after the copulation of the Giant and Big Mother, continues with the scenes from their childhood, first love and sexual impulses, fight for the place in the group and closes up with a ritual sacrifice - symbol of transformation.
Participation in this festival would be a great challenge for our group. It is possible to reconstruct the performance and adapt it to the changing environment because in its core are the characters, their behavior and a structure of parade that is based on their life cycle.
