The Spirit of Pocahontas creatively retells the story from the perspective of the Storyteller Werowance and the Powhatan Tribe. They bring to life the Legend of Pocahontas. When Pocahontas is summoned by wind, Werowance takes on the role of her Father, Chief Powhatan. To represent the English Settlers, Members of the Tribe don silver ceremonial masks. Werowance also makes John Smith materialize from the campfire flames. Throughout the show’s half hour, you will be dazzled by talented performers and inspiring special effects (including fire and wind). My favorite part was when they brought out and spun a few "bull roarer's" to simulate the sound of wind. The memorable score and songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are certain to inspire and delight. Even Grandmother Willow makes an appearance within a huge willow tree to offer guidance to Pocahontas and John Smith. Stick around to the end of the show, where Pocahontas and John Smith's spirits are returned within an amazing vortex of leaves. The show ran from 1995 - 1997 at the newly re-named Fantasyland Theater, which was formerly known as the Videopolis Stage. My brother's best friend performed in this show with him. I would like to dedicate this video to Alan Espinoza who passed away on August 2nd, 2024. Enjoy.
