Just thought I would upload this video taken some years back around the lower west side of Manhattan NYC area where these famous or underrated actors once resided while making it big in Hollywood.
Incidentally, the two actor Irwin Keyes and actress Dorothy Cobs were cast in the iconic movie that would make one of the most profitable franchises in the genre of Horror films from Paramount Pictures and Gulf + Western Company.... "Friday the 13th", released in the U.S. in 1980.
Irwin Keyes who played the bus boy and janitor and Dorothy Cobs who portrayed the waitress in the small-town cafe in "Friday the 13th" scene together locally cast in NY taking place in Stanhope, New Jersey. The scene was with a young teen named Annie who was supposed be the culinarian for the reopened summer camp who hitchhiked with oil truck driver Enos to the scary superstitious and infamous Camp Crystal Lake. The later location of the film was Blairstown, New Jersey.
Irwin Keyes (a.k.a. Irwin Elliott Keyes) lived down the block from me during the 1970s and early 1980s where a lot of famous actors and celebrities lived at the time.
Both actors ironically lived around the corner from each other. Mr. Keyes on West 10 Street and Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village (a.k.a. The West Village) and Ms. Cobs on Christopher Street in the same vicinity of New York City.
He was an actor with noticeably distinguished physical features due to a medical condition known as Acromegaly. A condition of the pituitary glands leading to disfigurement and over-sized facial and bone structure. Many actors and actresses with distinguished features are known for having to be typecast in Hollywood movies.
The actor was a very wonderful, down to earth person who took his work very seriously, which explains why so many famous and not so famous Filmmakers or Directors and Producers loved to Typecast him in stereotypical roles. Yes! He was that guy with that recognizable face, but unknown name.
He's also known for 80s:
"Chained Heat" (1983) with Linda Blair, Sybil Danning, Stella Stevens.
"Zapped" (1982) with Scott Baio, Willie Aames, Heather Thomas, Felice Schachter.
"Death Wish IV: The Final Crackdown" with Charles Bronson, Kay Lenz and John P. Ryan.
The Actor went onto successfully make hundreds of movies including mainstream, independent and B-Movie titles (See his IMDb Credits).
Fond memories of talking to the actor whenever people would see him riding his old 10 Speed Bicycle on the sidewalk before entering his apartment building and being receptive to courtesy by telling the neighbors (only when asked) what type of work he was currently doing in movies or on Television. Funny memory of my Father jokingly asking him if he could ever put my son in the movies, he would just chuckle and say with honesty "no promises" lol. Afterall he was in the beginning of his career being Unionized by SAG and it was hard work when actors like him first started in the business. But he did not even have a bad reputation among the locals there in the Village, as very few people I knew in the neighborhood did. Not even bad press from the media (to my knowledge). Good hardworking man.
Another very nice well respected underrated, but familiar looking actor named Jack Marks who played the Sheriff in the 1981 Hit sequel "Friday the 13th, Part 2". Seen him before in NYC but never approached. Incidentally years later seen him on a transit Bus and was conversational. He told me he "still had the knot where Jason hit him". Intentional humor... I Hope! Sadly, never turned out for the Fan Horror Con Cast panel interviews.
I have been quite fortunate to get autographs pictures during that time period from people like Burt Reynolds, John Ritter, Stacey Keach and not so many others, but did meet them.
My Father managed and worked for an Off-Broadway and Theatrical Actor who owned a Moving & Storage Company located in the Meat Packing District of lower Manhattan in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was fortunate to meet and greet so many Hollywood Legends. The Moving Company owner gave many Actors discounts, he was the go-to Mover for Celebs back then. My Dad got autographs from them... and had lengthy conversations with many of them who gave him big tips such as Steve McQueen (never sent a Post Card as promised lol), Lee Marvin (according to my Dad, was rough, but conversational), Frank Sinatra (graciously thanked and commended my father for his WWII service and was a Big Tipper!), Marlon Brando (extremely nice, very conversational), Gregory Peck (believe I seen him once enter the office of the loft warehouse)... Zsa Zsa Gabor. A funny story my Dad had while supervising the Moving, she told my father she would not leave her sofa and would have to move her while on her sofa like Queen but eventually was persuaded. Vincent Price (very nice) ... father also managed the moving of some cast members of the old Saturday Night Live such as Lorraine Newman and countless more!
