In 2008, the WRITE, SHOOT, CUT, PLAY Basic Filmmaking Workshop by Filipino Pictures, Inc. emerged from the creative minds of its co-founders, filmmaker Manie Magbanua Jr. and the late great music icon, Francis Magalona, who is regarded as the King of Philippine Rap.
Collaborating with their network of friends from the filmmaking industry, predominantly from the independent film sector, they brought the concept to life. Inspired by the rapid advancements in technology that made film and video equipment more accessible and affordable, they believed that anyone could make a film. However, many aspiring filmmakers, despite having great stories, struggled with execution due to a lack of fundamental filmmaking knowledge. They often attempted to break the rules of filmmaking before mastering them.
This realization led to the creation of a workshop syllabus focused on providing basic training in all aspects of filmmaking.
Here are some behind-the-scenes moments from the first batch of the workshop held in April 2008. Many participants from this batch have since become successful filmmakers, excelling in their chosen fields.
Sit back, relax, and join us in reminiscing this historic event.
