Host Your Website on Google Drive (Free & Easy!)
Hey everyone, welcome back to Avijit P. Tech!
Today, we'll learn how to host a website for free using Google Drive. This is perfect for displaying your CV or portfolio online.
What You'll Need:
• A Google account (optional, can use your existing one)
• HTML website files
• (Optional) Custom domain name
Steps:
1. Create a Google Account (Optional):
o This step allows separate management of your website and personal accounts. You can skip this if you prefer.
o Head to Google signup and create a new account.
2. Upload Your Website Files:
o Google Drive can't host dynamic websites (like WordPress). Only HTML websites work.
o Create a new folder in your Drive with the exact same name as your desired domain (e.g., "www.avijitp.tech").
o Upload all your website files into this folder.
3. Share Your Website:
o Right-click the folder, choose "Share," then "Anyone with the link."
o Set access to "Viewer" for security.
4. Host Your Website (Optional - Custom Domain):
o Visit drv.tw to host your site on Google Drive.
o Select your website's Google account and allow access.
o drv.tw will provide a link to your website. You can share this link, but it won't have a custom domain.
5. Set Up a Custom Domain (Optional):
o Purchase a domain name from a provider like BigRock.
o Access your domain's DNS settings and edit the CNAME record.
o Copy the specific portion of the drv.tw link provided in the video.
o Paste this link into the CNAME record, save the settings.
o It may take a few hours for your custom domain to work.
6. Edit Your Website Content:
o Download the file you want to edit from your Drive folder.
o Use an HTML editor (e.g., Dreamweaver, Notepad++) to make changes.
o Save the edited file and upload it back to the same location in Drive, replacing the existing file.
o You can also update images by going into the folder and replacing them.
