WisEye Morning Minute: Ramthun and Evers on Elections
As reported by WisPolitics.com, Rep. Tim Ramthun (R-Campbellsport) introduced a new version of his resolution to reclaim Wisconsin's electoral votes for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. The GOP gubernatorial candidate told reporters the resolution is essentially the same but adds additional areas of concern, including the use of drop boxes in 2020. Republican leaders declined to take up the resolution when Ramthun introduced it during the most recent legislative session. The state Supreme Court last week ruled the state Elections Commission gave clerks bad advice when the agency advised them they could use drop boxes to address an increase in absentee ballots during the pandemic. In another news conference, Evers slammed Republicans investigating the 2020 election, saying they probably won't stop until "they're 6 feet under." Evers made the comments in response to a reporter asking if he expected Republicans to continue former Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman's election investigation in the event he is reelected. In response to GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels not ruling out reclaiming the state's electoral votes for Biden, Evers raised concerns about administration of future elections. Evers said if a Republican candidate for governor is elected, he believes election administration will change to give the Legislature final say in elections.
