Ghost AKA - Free Form Slam Vol. I
Ghost AKA, Tony Jenkins, J. Gamzee, Preshrunk Punk, R.S.S. I'm a lot of things, and this time is no different. This time I'm coming at you as a free verse poet with my acapella of this near spoken word track that I wrote at work today. Its got some nods to modern society as well as briefly touching upon the idea that people are afraid to openly be themselves and that's one that irks me. I dunno. It is what it is. Anyway, I don't wanna spend a lot of time talking about it. Check it out and listen, I hope you enjoy it. Here's the rough outline of everything said in this:
I see the same shit being said day to day
All the people on Facebook trying to pray life away
Two hands that help better than a thousand that pray
No point in saying it if you're just online anyway
The world's a sick joke and we are the punchline
We sleep at night on the pillow lie everything is fine
Always saying there's tomorrow but do we really have time
Lying to ourselves should be a fucking crime
Slavery was abolished, but we still do our part
The soul of this country's been long torn apart
Society's got us ignorant to the feelings of our hearts
Pop culture got us chasing our next high, you know I'm right
Bullshit media got us back to racist thinking
The dream of forward progression is shrinking
How can you tell me other races are to blame
When the people in charge are old, rich white men
People making jokes about world war three
Won't be so fucking funny when you lose your family
But if you've got money we're the land of the free
Fuck the wealthy they don't care bout scrubbies like you and me
I know I'm not the only one with anger inside
But so many only wanna hide behind their keyboards
They wanna feel like overlords these hactivisits
But if you ask me, most of them are slacktivists
But you wanna slam me for expressing my mind
With my clown paint and ways, well let me remind you
How scared you are to be yourself
What's the point to living if you keep yourself on the shelf
It's time to bring this shit to an end
If you're nodding to what I'm saying then you understand my friend
Speak your own mind, don't be afraid to use your voice
Don't follow the trend, the choice is yours
