Electric Avenue was one of those tunes I played over and over when I was young and just realizing how moving music can be and how much I wanted to sing. So thanks to the band for backing me on this one, played one time only at what might have been my last show back in October.
Electric Avenue refers to the first street to finally get electric lighting in South London's poor, neglected, black part on the city called Brixton. I admit I never knew all the words (let alone history) of this tune until I learned more about the song for the show. Seems fitting to share the tune and Eddy's anger with dirty politics on the day Michael Cohen is sentenced to three years. Now, in the spirit of Eddy Grant, let's finally "get to the one."
