Aaaaaaand another one to the collection.
I love Massive to death, he's an amazing runner, and more importantly, a great friend. I was honestly done with the category when I had achieved the 55, I was ready to leave it behind, but massive pushed me to continue. Merely one month ago I stood before the mountain of giants before me and stood satisfied knowing I had reached "The last minute barrier in a long long time", how wrong I was. Massive's prowess, skill and willpower allowed him to achieve the world record, becoming the third person to have restricted and 100% at the same time, a title exclusive to xiae, I, and now massive.
I knew massive was going to get the record, and I thought that it would hurt the same way as when Bowsr got the record. I thought that if massive had gotten the record, my ego would have been bruised, but this was not the case. My ego wasn't bruised, instead it just felt like another day at the office. Massive and I go way back, we fought in Hundo, ACE (briefly), TAG2, Horde Mode, and now here. It seems that we always end up in each others vicinity, just goes to show our friendship.
To bring Bowsr back into the conversation, this run turned out to be just over 10 minutes faster than Bowsr's legendary, groundbreaking 1:04:47, the run that inspired me to play the category. Without Bowsr, there is no me today. Thank you for your continued greatness.
Alright, I'll stop gushing over my idols(for now). Let's talk about how realistic 53 is.
Now that the walls of 54 had been shattered, I honestly feel okay about getting 53, like it doesn't feel as hard as it should be. I have 20 seconds on cultist base, 20 seconds on exultia, and miscellaneous timesave elsewhere that could, albeit technically push me over to getting a 53, still is really, REALLY difficult. I'm not claiming this to be impossible or anything, it would just require me to get really ridiculous RNG. I know, I know. RNG in my doom? Impossible.
1:00, 59, 58, 57, 56, 55, 54, how long will it take for 53? Well, to put this into perspective, I got the first 1:00 and 59 runs in late 2021, the first 58 and 57 in June 2022, the first 56 in May 2023, the first 55 in July 2023, and now, the first 54, August 2023. That makes for 2 minute barriers in 2021, 2 in 2022, but 3 in 2023. We're not slowing down, we're actually speeding up. There's still several months until the year ends, anything could happen. In a run as precise as this, the only way out is to keep getting better and better, which seems to be what we're doing. Improving drastically and constantly, evolving with the flow, and doing what we once thought was impossible.
Keep your head up high friends, 53 is not that far away, and I'm not going anywhere.
