Miyun Reservoir is a large reservoir in Miyun County, Beijing, China. It was completed in 1960 and covers 180 square kilometers. It has a capacity of 4 billion cubic meters and an average depth of 30 meters. Miyun Reservoir is the largest artificial lake in Asia. It is the largest and only source of drinking water for Beijing, serving over 11 million people.
The reservoir was originally built for flood prevention, electricity generation, agricultural irrigation, and aquaculture. It is also a hotspot for migratory waterbirds.
