UFC Welterweight Division Outlook
On this episode Cobe discusses why the UFC Welterweight Division is the most interesting Division in the UFC right now.
A couple important factors that contribute to why the UFC Welterweight Division is excellent currently is that first of all it has a true champion. Unlike the Light Heavyweight or Heavyweight Divisions that have Champions who won vacated belts against opponents who already lost against the previous champion. Then you have divisions like Middleweight and Featherweight that lack legitimate title contenders.
Welterweight has a true Champion in Leon Edwards with quite a few legitimate contenders gunning for him. It's also a Division that has a few fighters who could rightfully demand a title shot, and a decent amount of both grapplers and strikers.
Also the 170lb Welterweight Division doesn't provide much opportunity for fighters to move up or down to another weight class. True Welterweights have a difficult time making Lightweight, and don't have the size to compete at Middleweight. The only way for a Welterweight to gain an advantage is to continuously improve as a Martial Artist. One of the best examples of this was Conor McGregor's move up to Welterweight to fight Nate Dias. Conor is a true Lightweight, and didn't have the power that is required at Welterweight to knock out Nate Dias despite landing some solid shots.
When it comes to Welterweight the old adage that iron sharpens iron is absolutely true. In this video Cobe fills you in on which fighters you need to keep an eye on, and who they are fighting next or hopefully will be.
