My mother allowed herself to balloon almost to 400 pounds and kept insisting it was her thyroid. She buried herself in food and passed the habit to my brother and I. I don't blame her for my current weight, I did that, but I do blame her for me being an overweight child.
She did eventually lose some of the weight and got close to reaching 200 pounds a few times but she kept quitting and blaming her thyroid as she wolfed down more junk food.
Secretly she enjoyed being obese as it was yet another way for her to play the victim as she told everyone it was her thyroid instead of her diet. I will not wind up like her and allow myself to die from being too fat to live.
