The Bergepanzer 38 was developed for units equipped with the Hetzer tank destroyer. The Bergepanzer was open at the top, which provided a basis for further (field) modifications. Thus, a tank recovery vehicle with a 2 cm Flak 38 gun was created. From October 1944, a total of 106 built and 64 converted Bergepanzer 38 were added to the Hetzer battalions.
The vehicle was most likely built in 1944. The original 7.8 l six-cylinder in-line petrol engine Praga Ps 1 EPA AC/258 with a power of 160 PS accelerates the vehicle to 42 km/h.
The Bergepanzer 38 with 2-cm Flak 38 is utterly complete, restored down to the last screw and reconstructed exactly according to factory specifications and manuals. It is absolutely unique as a roadworthy vehicle and no other models are known worldwide. Recorded at Overloon Militracks
