Bach and Bathe 2019 | ...in the amphitheatre
The first concert to feature classical music in Peninsula Hot Springs’ new Amphitheatre showcased soothing, refreshing and stimulating pieces by German masters all known to have drawn inspiration for their compositions while ‘taking the waters’ and was held in January 2019.
Hot spring pools, violins, violas and cellos may not seem a natural fit, but according to 1st violinist Peter Clark and 2nd violinist Jessica Oddie, there's a long cultural heritage between hot springs bathing and classical music.
“We’re excited about effectively bringing hot springs-inspired classical music back to its source, with famous German composers having sought rest and therapy in hot springs.
“The fact that these people were composing their music inspired by the nature surrounding them, means that in a sense it is almost more appropriate for audiences to experience these works while immersed in nature, in a place such as Peninsula Hot Springs – even more appropriate than a concert hall.”
World class musicians came together for the Peninsula Summer Music Festival for this exclusive sunset performance, which was a major event within the 2019 festival.
High calibre quartet:
Peter Clark (violin) is a regular performer with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Concertmaster of the 17-piece Inventi Chamber Orchestra. Peter has performed chamber music at Denmark’s Thy Chamber Music Festival with Máté Szűcs, principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic.
Cellist William Hewer earned his Masters of Performance in Cologne. He is often between Manchester and London playing for London Philharmonia and the BBC Philharmonic.
Yale School of Music graduate and Inventi Chamber Orchestra violin soloist Jessica Oddie recently moved to Australia after performing around the world.
