Here is a good example of why this punishment was abolished by an act of parliament, here the offender is at first punished in the normal way with rotten fruit, only for this to turn into a public execution paid for by the victims next of kin, in the same way some richer Individuals would pay bodyguards or other members of the public to protect them from the crowd while they served out there time at the pillory.
