The Takeaways - Sweet & Sour 1984
12/22 All 13x Episodes almost ready! Ok, the Takeaways weren't real, the lyrics are ditzy & they lip sync, except a few backing vocals. The 'Takeaways' were a made-up band, for the 1983/4 Australian ABC TV series "Sweet & Sour".
Cast was: Tracy Mann, David Reyne, Sandra Lillingston, Arky Michael, Ric Herbert & Robin Copp and the singing was by Deborah Conway (this track), John Clifforth & Cathy McQuade. But ... having Deborah Conway's singing voice inside Tracy Mann seems a win-win.
However....David Reyne is an actual musician who, with brother James, was in Australian Crawl. I had a pretty significant crush on both Tracy & Sandra - looking back I feel my taste is vindicated ;-) This clip is just a nice little bit of history. Note how Tracy is "square gaiting" (my Navy past...) at 02:26.
