#GGWCUP
The 16th Tournament held in Amman, Jordan in May 2021 was the first Global Goals World Cup (GGWCUP) held in the Middle East in Arabic. The tournament was created in partnership with local host Rise for Good. Since 2015 tournaments have been held in 12 countries. The event included a large-scale mobilization of girls and women of all ages and from all walks of life across Jordan.
GGWCUP not only succeeded in supporting women in their efforts to dream big, speak up and be heard, it also provided permanent safe spaces to play. It provided many with the opportunity to be physically active for the first time in their lives and many are committed to continuing on this journey and bringing others along. Many obstacles were overcome to hold this tournament. In addition to the restriction faced by women to engage in sports, they overcame the challenges presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic and as game days came, they played through a devastating conflict in neighboring Palestine only an hour away.
