In 1975, two prototype vans were produced based on the VAZ-2102 station wagon, designated 21029. After several years of testing, a trial batch of 47 electric cars was produced by 1981. These cars were shipped to customers in Moscow, Tolyatti, and Ukrainian factories; several were used for hot food delivery within the factory.
