A match of 5v5 (can make bigger, or add GK as player #s change)
Players restricted to their third of the pitch
Ball out of play = Coach does a quick restart. Player at fault collect the ball & return it to coach.
Set up the players in a shape to invoke match-realistic numbers e.g. defenders have a 2v1 (or 3v1 with a GK) advantage in defensive third, mid-third is evenly matched (similar to midfield battles), attacker is somewhat isolated in the final third.
KPs:
Use a numbers-up situation to dictate tempo, build up under less pressure
Use a numbers-down situation to encourage individual skill, increased speed of play
Patient build-up to shift opponent
Cut-throat penetrating passes when on
Progression:
When team has possession, 1 player can slide into the next third (join the attack). When possession is lost, return to original shape & numbers.
KPs:
Using numbers-up to advance the attack
Recognizing the possibility of a counter-attack or quick attack
Carry vs recycle the ball – depends on WWWWWH
