-------------------------

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts is a stealth-focused shooter, that rewards patience and planning, as you line up shots taking sneakiness wind and distance into account. While the game focuses on slow-paced sniping, it’s far from realistic. The game leans HEAVILY into its arcade style, with features such as enemy tracking, revealing enemy positions when they've spotted you, and a range of OP unlockable abilities and utilities.

Spanning 15 hours, the story takes you across five decently sized open-world maps. These maps offer a variety of objectives and optional tasks, with plenty of freedom in how you approach each level. Experimenting with different strategies, routes, and sniping spots adds replay value, though the options are less deep than in the Hitman series. The core sniping mechanics are satisfying, with a gorey but enjoyable kill cam system that feels rewarding for clean shots. There's also weapons' and gadgets to unlock, as well as a skill tree with stat boosts and plenty of arcadey upgrades.

The most frustrating thing in contracts is the reliance on checkpoints rather than manual saves. A single misstep can force you to replay up to 30 minutes of slow, methodical gameplay, which can make you feel like quitting. The AI is also inconsistent, with some just staring blankly after they've been shot, or all enemies in an area instantly pinpointing your location after a silent kill. Other issues include clunky climbing mechanics, an unclear scan function, as well as occasional enemy and terrain bugs.

Overall, while the game is decent and offers some really satisfying moments, such as picking off enemies from 200 meters or setting up clever traps... the game fails to deliver a solid overall experience. The arcade elements undermine its potential as a satisfying stealth title, while the various issues and frustrations keep it from being a fun arcade-style game.
