Spotify held a massive one hour 40 minute event called stream on! It was massive!
(not as good as Apple’s events)
But they had appearances from
Billie Eilish Fennius, Khalid, Halsey, Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber and even Harry and Meghan
But so you don’t have to spend 1 hour and 40 minute of your time. Let me highlight what I believe are the 5 biggest new features for 2021
1. 80 new territorial expansion, 1 billion NEW people.
Spotify currently has more than 340 million active users and 150 million subscribers are premium subscribers. Spotify is currently in 93 markets. But after this new expansion they will be in 178 markets globally!
2. Spotify HiFi audio, YES this is the ONLY thing Tidel had better than Spotify, BUT not any more! So shout out to the producers because when using HiFi audio you should be able to hear a lot more of the art that goes into creating the music
3. It's a bit of a tease and I wish I had more information but they say that more artist will have access to Enhanced Albums They have been experimenting with artist like Lady Gaga & Blackpink. SOOO MORE VIDEO IS COMING
Feature number 4!!!! This is were it really starts getting good!
4. Spotify CLIPS (STORIES)
I have been telling artist to stop thinking about Spotify as jus music streaming service but think about Spotify more like a social media network.
Cover art is like a YouTube thumbnail
Canvas video is like early day instagram video or even VINE
Your music is your “HERO content”
AND
People can FOLLOW, LIKE, Share and SAVE your music and all of those carry a different value
SOOOO Spotify Clips is a natural addition to the platform that gives YOU the artist more storytelling capabilities so your fans can go deeper with you.
NOW, I know there are some of you that are going to say, OH NO, now I have to post videos to Spotify?!?! 🤦🏻♂️
Let me talk to you for a minute, YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING YOU DON’T WANT TO DO,
You are an independent artist and you control your own destiny. HOWEVER if you STOP thinking about advertising your music, AND STOP Promoting your music and start thinking more about telling YOUR STORY and inviting people into your life just like inviting friends over to watch a movie or hang out,
this PRESSURE that so many artist feel about “promoting” their music will go away and you will see how valuable it is to have so many places to tell your story.
Do you have any idea how much money it cost Linkin Park to release an ALBUM like THIS?!?!
SO YEAH SPOTIFY CLIPS IS GOING TO BE HUGE!!!!
5. Spotify Marquee & Discovery mode These tools let artist and their teams sponsor their Music as a recommendation. Now we don’t know WHEN but you will set these ad campaigns up in their new self-serve buying experience.
So to recap…
Within the next few weeks Spotify will be reaching 1 billion more people in a total of 178 markets
Launching hi-fi audio
Growing video inside of enhanced albums
Launching Spotify clips
Launching a new self-serve ad creation platform with tools like marquee in discovery mode
