Dealing with Recurrent Nightmares
This lucid dreaming technique comes from Stephen Laberges book “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming” and can be found in more detail there.

This is a technique used to help deal with recurrent nightmares
Begin by recalling a nightmare you have had more than once.
Write this nightmare down, be sure to include as much detail as you are able to remember
Examine your nightmare for potential points where you could have turned it around
Once you’ve done this choose a specific point to change
Choose an action you can perform to change this part of the nightmare
Also choose an ideal point before this in which you can renter the dream
Next you should find a time and place where you can be alone and uninterrupted for around 10 to 20 minutes
During this time you should lay or sit somewhere comfortable and do a relaxation exercise (I have several videos on these but you can find one that suits you very easily in various other locations)
Visualize yourself back in the nightmare beginning at the point you chose for your reentry.
Visualize the nightmare happening as it did before until you hit the point you have chosen to change.
At this point you should visualize yourself trying the new action and imagine how the dream might change for the better
Continue the visualization long enough to discover what kind of effect your change has had
Once your done, write down what you have visualized as if it was a normal dream
If you are unsatisfied with the results repeat this technique but use a different action or alteration point
Reaching this point alone may be enough to stop a recurring nightmare but if you do end up finding yourself in the nightmare again remember your alteration and your resolve to change the dream and then follow through with what you’ve decided.
This should allow you to change a nightmare into a more pleasant dream and end your recurring nightmare.
