One of the common misconceptions I encounter in my work is the belief that A large amount of vocal practice helps your voice sound better and improves your technique.
At first glance, this may seem like a true statement, since a priori, in any field, the more practice you have, the faster you can achieve good results. But unlike other musical disciplines, in vocals, technique, knowledge, and precision of the exercises come first, followed by their volume. This can be compared to acrobatics, where technique and precision determine not only success in competitions but also the athlete's health. The vocal apparatus is an even more delicate structure, easily damaged by one wrong move.
Spending hours practicing incorrect vocal techniques will not improve your singing. On the contrary, you can develop harmful vocal habits that will be extremely difficult to correct and eradicate. And they will ultimately lead to regression.
It's important to understand that before undertaking any vocal exercises, you should undergo a voice assessment, determine your starting point, and identify the issues that need to be addressed first. But only an experienced, qualified vocal coach can do this. Only after diagnosing your voice can we prescribe appropriate treatment (exercises) that will address your problems and improve your vocal technique.
Hello! My name is Olga Afanasyeva. I'm the founder of musicstory.school, a graduate of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, a student of Greg Enriquez, and a vocal coach with 20 years of experience. I don't have any unique methods, secret techniques, or magic pills that will make you sing instantly. I work consistently and individually with each student, helping them achieve their goals step by step. I share all the vocal techniques and tricks honestly and in detail on my blog.
