I often encounter situations where a vocalist doesn't understand where their voice comes from and how. And sometimes, they lack basic knowledge of the physics and anatomy of the voice. This leads to the false belief among vocalists that sound is produced exclusively in the throat.
This statement is partially true because voice production is the process of generating a sound wave, which occurs in the lower part of the throat, that is, the larynx. Both the larynx and all the muscles within it are responsible for sound production. The vocal folds located in the larynx are essentially the source of sound.

Let's remember that sound is waves that propagate in a specific medium. This could be water, air, stone, or even the human body. These waves create mechanical vibrations in the medium, which we hear. Sound is a certain type of air pressure. Voice production involves not only the larynx but also all the organs of the human vocal apparatus: the respiratory system, the vocal cords, the oral cavity, and the nasopharynx. The respiratory mechanism provides the vocal mechanism with the energy to produce sound, while the resonators determine the timbre, power, and quality of the voice.
