Today, we'll embark on a fascinating journey through the history of the detective genre. We'll examine the genre's inheritance from social novels and highlight its characteristics in comparison to fantasy and the picaresque novel.
But we certainly haven't forgotten that our podcast is sociological, not literary or philological. Therefore, our journey will include a discussion of the British and French socio-political systems, the tensions between democratic government and capitalism, the English aristocracy, and civil society. And that's far from all.
We'll attempt to unravel the tangled web of class and social relations, as well as their reflection within the English and French detective genres. And since this is no easy task, we'll be assisted by some of the greatest, albeit fictional, figures of the profession: detective Sherlock Holmes and Inspector Jules Maigret.
In other words, we're continuing our series dedicated to discussing Luc Boltanski's book "Secrets and Conspiracies: On the Trail of Investigations."
We appreciate your feedback in the form of likes, reposts, and comments. Enjoy listening! Your sociological guide to the world of the mysterious and unknown.
