Based on a novel, Picnic at Hanging Rock follows a story where three schoolgirls and their governesses mysteriously disappear on Valentines' Day in 1900. It captures viewers' attention with excellent acting, fabulous camera work, and great set scenes. And although the claustrophobic atmosphere of the school is portrayed masterfully, the story suffers from the lack of... character development and the non-existent storyline itself.
It's completely unclear why the things happen which happen and the ending is just as confusing as the beginning. But it leaves an open door for creative minds, making use of great footage and unexplored gay subtext...
