How to Write a Strong Conclusion for IELTS Writing Task 2 ?

Hey everyone! Struggling to write a powerful conclusion for your Writing Task 2 essay? A great conclusion is the cherry on top of your essay and can significantly boost your score. In today’s video, I’ll share five essential tips to help you craft an effective and impactful conclusion. Let’s get started!

Tip number one: Summarize your main points.

Your conclusion is your chance to briefly reinforce the key arguments from your essay. For example, if your essay discussed the benefits of online education, summarize your main ideas, such as flexibility and accessibility.
Keep it short and focused—just a couple of sentences are enough!

Next, restate your thesis.

This is a crucial step that reminds the examiner of your central argument. But don’t just copy your thesis from the introduction—rephrase it!
For instance, if your thesis was:
‘Online education provides numerous benefits, including flexibility and accessibility,’
You could rephrase it as:
‘The advantages of online education, particularly its flexibility and accessibility, make it a transformative approach to learning.’

Provide a Final Thought

Now, here’s where you can leave a lasting impression—provide a final thought.
This could be a call to action, a recommendation, or even a prediction related to your essay topic. For example:
‘As technology continues to advance, online education is likely to become an even more integral part of modern learning systems.’
A compelling final thought like this can resonate with the examiner and make your conclusion memorable.

Tip number four: Keep it concise.

Your conclusion isn’t the place to introduce new ideas or arguments. Focus solely on wrapping up your essay. A clear, concise conclusion ensures your essay ends on a strong note without confusing the examiner.

Use Transition Words

Finally, use transition words to signal the end of your essay. Phrases like:
‘In conclusion,’
‘To sum up,’
‘Finally,’
…help guide the reader smoothly towards closure. This makes your essay feel complete and well-structured.

By summarizing your points, restating your thesis, and adding a final thought, you can craft a conclusion that’s clear, concise, and impactful. Remember, a strong conclusion ties your essay together and leaves a lasting impression—exactly what you want to achieve for a high score!
