When you're shooting photos or video with a limited amount of time (think weddings or live events) and need a quick way to switch back and forth with certain settings, setting up custom shooting modes is a great way to save time to focus on the most important part: capturing the moment.
I use custom shooting modes with photos to save settings for natural light shooting vs flash, and for video to easily switch between 4K/24 and 4K/60. This lets me link multiple settings to each mode so that I don't have to think about what to change, it does it automatically!
This is for all Canon DSLR and Mirrorless cameras (although some like the R6 Mark I don't offer custom modes for video), but the instructions here are specifically focused on the EOS R8:
