Science Fiction or Science Fact - how stories have shaped the way we see AI, Bristol Data Week 2024
The AI and the Future of Society event was a public-facing day held on Thursday 6th June 2024 in Bristol City Hall. This event showcased current AI research in Bristol and the potential future of the use of AI in society. This event was part of Bristol Data Week 2024.
Our AI and the Future of Society 2024 event included an evening public lecture by Professor Genevieve Liveley on 'Science Fiction or Science Fact - how stories have shaped the way we see AI'. Humans have been sharing stories about intelligent machines and artificial minds for thousands of years, which has profoundly shaped the way with think and talk about AI. This session explored how science fiction could be obscuring science fact and limiting our perceptions about the possibilities and pitfalls of AI.
