The 2022 FIFA World Cup final was played on December 18, 2022, at the Iconic Stadium in Lusail, between Argentina and France.
Considered by some observers to be the best final in World Cup history, as well as one of the most spectacular football matches of all time, the match was won by Argentina 4-2 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw in regulation time and a 3-3 draw in extra time, for a final score of 7-5. The South American national team thus won its third FIFA World Cup, 36 years after its previous title.
It was the third time, after 1994 and 2006, that the final was decided by penalties, and the second consecutive time that France lost.
