The Rocky Mountains, the roof of the North American continent, are home to the Trans-Canada Highway, or Route 1, which connects the east and west of Canada.

Route 1 is known as the "Highway of Death" to truckers, but there is no avoiding it, nor can one stop.

North American trucking is considered one of the most dangerous professions in the world.

We met a Korean trucking couple who spend 300 days a year on the road.

Kim Won-shin (57), who has been living as a truck driver in Canada for 14 years, and his wife, Son Sun-hwa (55), are both in their fourth year as truck drivers.

Their mission is to drive 5,500 miles (8,850 km) over 5.5 days to traverse five Canadian provinces and make a round trip! The couple drives a staggering 1,700 km a day.

That is a distance equivalent to traveling between Seoul and Busan twice in a single day. Except for refueling or in the event of an accident, the vehicle never stops. A war against time waged by a married couple taking turns driving, eating, sleeping, and taking care of bathroom needs inside a moving car!

Driving non-stop for 10 or 11 hours, eyelids droop from drowsiness, and dangerous situations arise from dozing off....

This is a highlight from the February 6, 2013 [Wednesday Special] broadcast.
