My FULL Story (written version)
I originally got braces for the WRONG reasons. I was bullied in middle school for having a gap and so I told my mom about my insecurities within my smile and her being the supportive mother she is, was willing to do whatever it took to make me happiest.
I’m beyond grateful to have had the privilege to choose if I wanted to get braces or not. We had the money to afford braces so after I lost all of my baby teeth I started my journey. I had them for a total of 1 year and 8 months. If I were to have found an orthodontist as soon as we relocated to a new state I probably wouldn’t have had them for more than a year and a half. I went about 5 consecutive months (mid-journey) without a tightening appointment and though this didn’t visually affect me much, I took a toll when it came to waiting for results.
The first day there was virtually no pain, not during or after getting then on. The next day my teeth felt a bit weird and then LATER THAT WEEK I FELT THE PAIN! I felt my teeth loosening and shifting; it was not fun ): THE worst pain I've experienced as a human being so far and I wish I could say I'm joking. Be very aware of my extremely low pain tolerance though lol
I had a cross-bite, overbite, and more than a few small gaps to close but keep in mind that I had insurance cover about 20% of the cost which was around $4-5k. I wore my retainer for more than a year and lost it upon living in college housing ): I DID have a permanent retainer installed right after getting the braces off so my bottom teeth won't shift. Although, my bottom teeth were already straight just not centered.
Due to Cov-d, I haven’t been able to replace my lost retainer (my orthodontist is in TX), but I do plan on visiting very soon so don't worry (;
