Americans Love Presidents Who Lie - How Jimmy Carter's Honesty Ruined Him
Jimmy Carter was the 39th U.S. President. His presidency would follow extreme circumstances. Between the war in Vietnam, and the previous President (Ford) pardoning his previous President (Nixon) for lying about the war in Vietnam, Americans had grown tired and wary of the government. A construct of corruption, secret dealings, war and lies is what the last two presidents left for Carter, and it was on him to now try to mend the nation and attempt to reedem the government's respect from its good people.
Carter would go on to dissappoint the nation, and underperform in their eyes, this would lead to Carter not being voted in twice and instead Ronald Wilson Reagon would take the presidency after him and carve out a significant Republican legacy. What lead to the people's distate in Carter? How is it possible that a President that did not lie, go to war, or lie about going to war was so hated by his people? This video attempts to frame the key events of Carter's presidency and contextualize the citizen's perspective of the President and government.
