Kinderdijk is the largest concentration of windmills in the Netherlands. 19 windmills were built in 1740 to drain the polder and pump the water into the river Lek. Kinderdijk is located 15 km from Rotterdam. Since 1997 Kinderdijk is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
