US Marines Assaulted In Turkey
Two marines were attacked by a nationalist group in Turkey yesterday. The two marines were wearing plain clothes when a group of 15 restrained them and placed a bag over their heads. The group was chanting “Yankee go home” in the video. Other marines intervened and broke up the assault. They are ok and the group has been arrested by Turkish police. The group released a statement saying “US soldiers, who carry the blood of our soldiers and thousands of Palestinians on their hands, cannot dirty our country. Every time you step into these lands, we will welcome you as you deserve!" The Marines were there as part of a port visit. Turkey is supposedly a NATO ally which makes this incident troubling. While Turkish authorities immediately took responsibility and arrested those responsible, it just adds to the laundry list of issues between the rest of the alliance and Turkey.
