Difference Between Civil & Criminal Cases
A criminal case might deprive someone of their liberty or their property rights as an individual. With that being said, the Burden of Proof in a criminal case for the government to take someone’s liberty or take their property away is “beyond a reasonable doubt”. Contrastingly, in a civil case “the preponderance of the evidence” comes into play, meaning that it’s more likely true than not true.
