Temple University Rome's new campus opening celebration (Short version)
Temple University Rome celebrated its new campus location’s opening with a memorable event on September 26, 2024, for Temple University
leadership and Board of Visitors members, local, American and international government officials, university partners and colleagues, friends, faculty and staff (also livestreamed for alumni and all those who were unable to attend in person).
The event took place on the university’s spectacular terrace right under Piazza Trinità dei Monti.
Guest speakers President Lorenza Bonaccorsi (President of Municipio Roma I), Ms. Karen Schinnerer (Cultural Attaché, U.S. Embassy in Rome), Temple University President Richard Englert, Temple University Provost Gregory Mandel, Temple Rome Dean and Temple University Vice Provost
for Global Engagement Emilia Zankina, highlighted the wonderful partnership between the city of Rome and American institutions such as Temple University, in addition to the new and incredibly immersive cultural experience that Temple Rome’s new location offers its students.
The event’s Roman-inspired catering was accompanied by the exceptional wine offered by Terre d'Aquesia Vigna & Cantina. The evening also featured a live jazz band whose repertoire featured timeless classics such as Duke
Ellington’s Take the A Train and Frank Sinatra's Fly Me to the Moon, bringing
a touch of magic together with the breathtaking view of the Church of Trinità dei Monti lit up against the night sky.
With just over eight months of renovation work, Temple Rome’s new campus facilities include full disability access, state-of-the-art classrooms, printmaking, papermaking, sculpture, photography, visual arts and architecture studios and Temple Rome’s Gallery of Art, as well as a science lab, library, and conference center. A open-air courtyard and large panoramic terraces with views ranging from Piazza Trinità dei Monti to St. Peter’s Basilica and Rome’s city center skyline provide unique spaces for student life and events. As of January 2025, the campus will also feature
a comfortable residence hall for first-year students with single/double rooms for a maximum of 50 beds.
