What were volunteers doing at Silver Strand State Beach over the weekend?
To celebrate #EarthDay, folks came out to help remove invasive ice plants from the park's sensitive coastal strand and dune habitats! Introduced initially to stabilize soil along railroad tracks, iceplant has since spread and dominated coastal soils.
Removing this weed is necessary to improve the native ecosystem, which provides a more robust defense against climate threats like sea level rise.
Thank you to all the volunteers who joined us! Stay tuned for more Earth Day recap content! 👉 Learn more at calparks.org/earthday. #CalparksEarthDay
