Is this a MIDI system?
No, this circuit works off analog signals coming straight from a 3.5mm audio jack. MIDI is serial data that has to be processed by a chip (microcontroller) and converted
into commands that control frequency and duration of a note, among other values. This circuit could be turned into a MIDI-compatible circuit with the help of a microcontroller.

Typically you do this manually because a fully composed song is very difficult to seperate into all of its individual parts:
