Join Caltech President Thomas F. Rosenbaum and 2020 Distinguished Alumnus Dan O’Dowd (BS ’76) for a lively exploration of why most security software is ineffective and options for making things better.

O’Dowd is founder and CEO of Green Hills Software, which ensures safety and security for an impressive variety of applications, including commercial and military avionics, self-driving cars, and remotely controlled medical equipment. He is widely recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership and transformative contributions to the development and commercialization of fail-safe embedded safety and security software.

“Making un-hackable systems was an unsolved problem 25 years ago,” says O’Dowd, adding that Green Hills Software has met the highest standards of the Federal Aviation Administration as well as those of the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology – a certification no other company has achieved.

Hacking affects everyday life in both large-scale and personal attacks, and O’Dowd believes there are solutions available now to companies willing to prioritize security.
