In this episode, we’re building a 10-step sequencer using the legendary CD4017 Decade Counter / Divider — one of my favorite ICs for creating rhythmic patterns and step-based control in DIY synths!
You’ll learn exactly how the CD4017 counts from 0 to 9, how to feed it a clock signal (from the VCO we built in the previous video), and how to connect LEDs to visualize each step of the sequence in real time.
🔧 Parts Used:
CD4017 Decade Counter IC
CD4046 or CD40106 Oscillator (as clock source)
10 LEDs + 1 kΩ common resistor
9 V battery or 12 V DC power supply
Potentiometer (10 kΩ)
100 µF capacitor
Breadboard + jumper wires
