Is spoken word recognition possible with just 200 lines of JavaScript (and without sending your voice to China, or depending on anyone else's code?) Can an offline web page listen, classify, and respond to sounds in the environment just by monitoring sound levels? I guess this amounts to a JavaScript, HTML5 AI-free word recognition, sound recognition, sound API starter pack. A very simple, tiny snippet of code that you can improve on. It uses web standards. No proprietary services or subscriptions. Released with open license, as explained in the HTML comments.

Were you looking for robust, offline, real-time speech recognition instead of this 1-hour experiment Check out my free and open source (FOSS) Whisper Dictation project. https://github.com/themanyone/whisper...

Of course by now speech recognition is nothing new. What is new is how small and independent this project is. Other projects are huge and bloated. Good luck figuring them out!
