On Oct. 10, 2023, XR xperts from the GGDA and leading theoreticians from Georgia Tech joined to discuss opportunities and obstacles in developing XR games and other titles. Enjoy their insights into what may become the killer app for VR.

Speakers

James Ashley (m) is a VR/MR/XR architect specializing in Magic Leap, HoloLens, Oculus, and Kinect. In 2012 he wrote the book [Beginning Kinect Programming](http://www.apress.com/us/book/9781430...) with Jarrett Webb for Apress. It was the first book published about Kinect development and sits on the bookshelves of most creators working in emerging technologies today. In 2017 he and Dennis Vroegop created the [App Development for HoloLens](  / app..  ) course on LinkedIn Learning. James currently works as an engineering manager for an AR incubator in Redmond, Washington.

Marcus Matthews is currently immersed in the frontier of next-gen sports gaming, collaborating closely with studios delving into the realms of XR. He most ore recently, spearheaded efforts at Niantic, the minds behind Pokémon Go, where he shaped the vision of NBA All-World—a groundbreaking AR-enabled league licensed sports game. A driving force in sports gaming for over two decades, Marcus gained recognition as Senior Producer for the inaugural version of NFL 2K in NBA 2K in 1999.

Daniel Phelps. Finishing his fifth year of Ph.D. study at The Georgia Institute of Technology, his integrated media work has been seen in galleries, 3D film festivals, the USPTO, and multimedia installation facilities around the U.S. Daniel's work in media and design incorporates robotics, UX/UI, media architecture, passive projections of media, forced perspective, anamorphosis, and physical computing. Working from his Atlanta Digital Design Studio and Georgia Tech’s Augmented Environments Lab, Daniel strives for innovative ways to blend design philosophies to create connection, wonder, and curiosity- beyond novelty.

Jay David Bolter is the Wesley Chair of New Media and Director of the Augmented Environments Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He works with colleagues and students in the AEL to create AR and VR experiences for cultural heritage, entertainment, and expression. Together with Maria Engberg and Blair MacIntyre, he has recently published Reality Media: Augmented and Virtual Reality (Fall 2021, MIT Press).
