Mastering Door Handle Installation: A Step-by-Step Guide for Flawless Results
In this video, you will learn how to install a door handle or doorknob. The process is straightforward and can make a significant difference in the appearance and functionality of your door. Here are the steps to follow: 1. Begin by drilling a hole in the narrow edge of the door at the desired height for the doorknob. 2. Position the latch plate over the hole and make sure it aligns correctly. 3. Trace the shape of the latch plate onto the door using a pencil. 4. Remove the latch plate and use a hammer and chisel to remove the wood within the marked area, ensuring it matches the thickness of the latch plate. 5. Next, use a hole saw drill bit to create a hole through the door where the doorknob will be placed, drilling all the way through to the other side. 6. Reposition the latch plate and mark the screw holes with a pencil. Drill pilot holes and insert the latch, then screw in the latch plate. 7. Insert the doorknob into either side of the door, aligning the screw holes and the center locking mechanism latch. 8. Finally, install the striker plate on the door frame by tracing it with a pencil and chiseling out the wood. Drill a hole in the center for the latch and secure the striker plate with screws. Test the door by opening and closing it to ensure everything works properly. Remember to use the necessary tools such as a power drill, spade drill bit, hammer, hole saw drill bit, screwdriver, chisel, screws, and a pencil.
