Lock On Modern Air Combat - Escort A-10A
Second mission from F-15 Eagle campaign. We have to escort A-10s attacking small convoy of armored vehicles traversing southern part of Crimea. F-16s will provide SEAD support.
At 7:04 you can see my Sidewinder seeker locking into enemy R-60 missile - I guess its IR signature was greater than its carrier plane viewed from head-on. How often you see this modelled in flight sims?
During engagement with second enemy flight (well just one Fulcrum, the other apparently went home) since I had support from friendly AWACS I opted for silent and stealthy approach - with radar off you can sneak up from the side or rear while terrain masking and engage with Sidewinders (which will not trigger enemy RWR) or AMRAAM in Visual mode - making a Maddog launch the missile will track the first thing it sees (same as with Sparrow and FLOOD mode - just make sure there are no friendlies in front of you). The enemy will get a warning from his RWR as soon as AIM-120's radar goes active, which will be basically the moment the missile goes off the rail.
The mission was partial success which sadly didn't advanced me in the campaign. I flew the mission once more to finish it 100%. I will post additional short clip depicting sneaking on both Migs and engaging them with AMRAAMs in visual mode.
