ARRAY's Hollywood Africans | RASHOMON & BLACK ORPHEUS
Inspired by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s painting, Hollywood Africans in Front of the Chinese Theater with Footprints of Movie Stars, ARRAY’s “Hollywood Africans” film series is a monthly summer screening event featuring films pulled from the artist's private VHS collection.
Our first double-feature included Akira Kurosawa’s seminal RASHOMON (1950) with Academy Award™ winning BLACK ORPHEUS (1959) directed by Marcel Camus. And ticket holders participated in the ARRAY x Basquiat “We Wear Crowns” paint and sip studio, powered by ARRAY 101.
This program was created in partnership with The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the “Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure©” exhibit, the first exhibition of his work presented by his family, currently on view in Downtown Los Angeles at The Grand LA.
