In the context of partnership, interest on rent refers to the amount paid by the firm to a partner who has rented out property (such as land or a building) to the partnership for business use. This rent is treated as a charge against profits, meaning it is deducted from the firm’s income before distributing profits among partners.

If the partnership deed allows it, the partner is entitled to receive rent, and interest may also be payable on any unpaid rent, depending on the terms of the agreement. However, if not specified in the deed, no interest is payable on rent by default.
