How to Tie Dye using Fiber Reactive Dye
1. Prewash the shirt with detergent.
2. Soak the shirt in Soda Ash for a minimum of 1 hour and maximum of 48 hrs. Soda Ash mixture(1 cup per 1 gallon.) Soda ash is reusable.
3. Dry the shirt a bit (Damp.) Not so wet and not so dry.
4. Fold the shirt according to the desired design(Spiral, Scrunch, Mandala, Geode & etc..,)
5. For Liquid, Dye and Water ratio.
Black and Red - 2 tsp dye powder to 100ml water
Other Color - 1 tsp for 100ml(Except Pastel Colors)
Urea - 1 tsp to 300ml
Pastel Color - 1/8 tsp to 100ml.
Note* It depends on the shade you want to achieve. The more dye the darker shade the more water the lighter shade.
6. Apply the Dye.
Once done put it inside the plastic bag and set aside for 2-3 days. This process is called the curing process.
For HWI, the curing process is 15 mins to 1 hour.
For Ice Dye, the curing process is 24 hrs.
For LWI, the curing process is 1 hour.
7. After 2-3 days rinse the shirt in running water. you can use Zonrox colorsafe or synthrapol to avoid bleeding..
8. Let it dry and enjoy your tie dye shirt.
